Ventura, Calif. - The Cypress College women's tennis team had no trouble dispatching Fresno City College 6-1 in team play on Friday afternoon.

The Chargers swept all three doubles matches, to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The Rams defaulted at the No. 6 singles slot, and Theresa Roque fell at the No. 3 singles position, 6-2, 6-0, to make the match 4-1 with the Chargers ahead.

Breanna Posvar played an impressive match in the No. 5 spot to win 6-1, 6-3. The Chargers No. 4 singles player, Nadine Baquiran, was the only player to win both of her matches in singles and doubles competition.

The Chargers lost at No. 1, 2 and 3 in singles play to give them 6-3 victory in team match play against Fresno City.

It was a good time for the Chargers to get their first victory of the season after a rough start to the their 2012 campaign. Despite playing against some tough opponents already this season, this year's group of Chargers, assembled by head coach Michelle Esquivel, looks like its starting  to come together just a few matches into the season. With only one returning player from last year's team, Cypress will need to stay healthy at every position. The Chargers currently have six girls on the team to fill the six spots needed to compete in every match.

The Chargers will face off against Ventura College at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.
