Chargers Fall to Host Ventura College

Women's tennis battled to stay alive against the Pirates in a 5-0 loss on the road.

Ventura, Calif. - Cypress was looking for a way to stay alive in singles play, but fell in straight sets, 5-0, after losing in the No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 positions.

The Chargers only real hope at getting a point against a solid Ventura squad rested on the shoulders of Sharnen Chorn at the No.  5 singles spot. After falling behind early 1-0 in the match, Chorn rallied back to win the second set 6-1 and send it to a tiebreaker. Chorn nearly pulled off a victory after taking a 9-8 lead in the
super 10-point tiebreaker to clinch the set ,when the No. 6 match gave Ventura College the deciding victory it needed to secure the win.

The No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles ended before Chorn's match was through, and the deciding match at the No. 6 spot between Cypress' Breanna Posvar and Ventura's Grace Hanamoto ended in a Pirate victory,  6-4, 6-1.

The Chargers begin their Orange Empire Conference 2012 schedule with a match against Irvine Valley College at home on Thursday Feb. 23.
